Han Yan is a documentary filmmaker with over 10 years experience in TV documentaries, including work with the Discovery Channel and RTHK, a Hong Kong public broadcasting station. She has covered a range of subjects including the 6th Dalai Lama filmed in Tibet and the refugee crisis in Europe
Han Yan co-founded The Singing Cicadas in 2018, a new home for an independent collective of creatives – from filmmakers, designers, and programmers to writers, researchers and social workers – which focuses on non-fiction storytelling. The Singing Cicadas advocate for voices that are not heard in the mainstream, defying the confines of contemporary culture, and support a more open and fair environment for storytellers and all who wish for their story to be told.
