Bio
Rebecca Bauen leads Democracy at Work Institute’s (DAWI) training and education program, overseeing cooperative developer fellowships, training workshops, and the School for Democratic Management. DAWI works to expand the worker cooperative sector by providing support, resources, and training to worker-owned enterprises, with a focus on building equity and promoting economic justice. With extensive experience in worker cooperative development and adult education, Rebecca previously served as Executive Director of WAGES in Oakland, California, where she guided the organization in scaling green cleaning cooperatives.
Rebecca has taught courses on worker cooperatives at UC Berkeley, The Evergreen State College, Rutgers University, and the Cooperative University of Kenya. Her work has been featured in publications like GEO, the ICA Group, and Dollars & Sense. She has also participated in study trips to Argentine recuperated factories, as well as worker cooperatives in Cuba, Emilia Romagna, and Mondragon. Rebecca holds an M.P.A. with a focus on regional economic development and environmental sustainability.
