Bio

Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya is a Kenyan politician who served as the first governor of Kakamega County from 2013 to 2022. He was re-elected for a second term in 2017. Prior to his tenure as governor, Oparanya was the Minister of State for Planning, National Development, and Vision 2030 under President Mwai Kibaki. He also served as the Chairperson of the Council of Governors of Kenya from 2019. A member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), he previously represented Butere Constituency in Parliament. Currently, Oparanya is Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development, appointed by President William Ruto.
