Bio
Stefano Tortorici is a Ph.D. student in Political Science and Sociology at Scuola Normale Superiore and a member of The Centre on Social Movement Studies (Cosmos). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Turin, where he wrote his thesis on Marx’s Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844. He furthered his political and critical background at Vrije University in Amsterdam, Nanterre University in Paris, and Milan Bicocca University. Additionally, he has a master’s degree cum laude in Contemporary History from the University of Bologna, where he wrote his thesis on Platform Cooperativism: Organization of Labor and Radical Democracy in the 21st century. Stefano’s diverse academic background reflects his dedication to understanding complex social, economic, and political issues.
Stefano’s current research investigates how blockchain technology and financial platform.coopersystem.com.breratives can overcome the traditional problems of cooperatives. Additionally, his work explores the economic debate among cooperatives and socialist scholars to understand the relationship between cooperatives and the market. As an ICDE Fellow in 2023, Stefano produced the report Cooperative Roots for Climate Justice, which explores the history and potential of cooperatives—both legacy and platform co-ops—to address climate injustice. His research and interdisciplinary interests reflect his dedication to exploring innovative solutions for complex challenges.
