Thomas Daum is an Associate Professor at the School of Global Studies, specializing in sustainable agricultural transformation and natural resource management in Africa and Asia. He brings a multifaceted expertise to global food security challenges through his focus on innovations, governance, and sustainability in agricultural systems. His recent work covers agricultural mechanization, digital agriculture, pesticide use, livestock development, and sustainability transitions in African agricultural innovation systems. Daum’s innovative use of digital methods to collect data on time-use and nutrition in rural households sheds light on gender dynamics, enriching our understanding of agricultural communities. A Ph.D. and habilitation graduate from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, he has also consulted for international organizations like CIMMYT, FAO, and the World Bank. Beyond academia, Daum contributes as a freelance journalist to notable publications, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and serves on the editorial board of “Welternährung,” demonstrating his commitment to addressing global food security.
