Bio

Tommaso Fia is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Tübingen, specializing in (EU) data governance, private law, commons, and property theory. His research focuses on normative approaches to data governance and the political economy of data. He has published papers on topics such as commons-based data governance and the role of trade secrecy in the data economy. Fia teaches ‘Private Law in Digital Markets’ and ‘Consumer Law’ at the University of Turin.

He earned his Ph.D. from the European University Institute (EUI), where he also coordinated the Information Society (InfoSoc) Working Group. His doctoral thesis explored the governance of non-personal data in the EU. Fia has participated in research exchanges at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Before his academic career, he worked as a trainee lawyer in Milan, focusing on data protection matters.
